What are the chances that my wife's fathers's uncle's daughter-in-law's father's sister's daughter is the wife of my dad's sister's son-in-law's brother? I would say one in a billion and I am very fortunate to be that one in a billion...

it is even more amazing you could trace this far...(most people give up at about 'uncle's daughter-in-law':-)) - but this really shouldn't be too surprising from a probability point of view (we typically underestimate real-life probabilities - are you surprised (like me) to learn that in a room with only 23 people, there is a 50% chance two people will share same birthday?).
Something else to ponder - biologists tell us that each person alive is linked - through an unbroken chain of parenthood - to a mother, the 'mitochondrial eve'! (this woman must have had two or more daughters - otherwise that lone daughter would take on the mantle of being the M-Eve). Think about all possible ways the local populations must be linked in this tree of life - given that 100 years ago most people lived and dies within 5 miles of where they were born?
